Irina Polejaeva is a USTAR professor in the Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences Department at Utah State University. Polejaeva is currently working on improving cloning efficiency through understanding molecular mechanisms behind cloning. She is studying the role of cardiac fibrosis in cardiovascular disease using goats as models. Cardiac fibrosis is the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue in the heart, which is associated with a variety of cardiac diseases. Her lab is also combining SCNT and emerging genome-editing technology to show that beneficial livestock traits can be transferred between species.
