Partnering with each school, there are business resource centers and incubators to help not only the academic researchers, but entrepreneurs around the state to build their ideas and provide education and assistance as these start-up companies begin to grow their ideas.
Brigham Young University is a private research university. With perennial top-ten grad and undergrad programs, the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) creates a supportive, nurturing environment for all Brigham Young University students interested in starting and growing tech and scalable ventures. With a nationally ranked and recognized entrepreneurship program, the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at BYU’s vision is to “be the global leader in successful, campus-inspired entrepreneurial ventures.” This vision is realized through a variety of events and activities including a world-class Venture Mentoring Services program and the largest, private student startup competition in the nation. The Center is also home to the first-ever International Business Model Competition.
BYU Technology Transfer protects and commercializes technologies invented at Brigham Young University. The office provides expertise in business relationships, negotiations, protection of intellectual property, marketing, license agreements, contracts, and entrepreneurship. The primary purpose of the Technology Transfer Office is to facilitate the transfer of university-developed technologies to the marketplace. We do this by protecting BYU intellectual property (usually through patents), and by subsequently licensing the protected intellectual properties to companies outside the university.
DSU was founded on September 19, 1911, as St. George Stake Academy. In 2013, the Utah Legislature changed the status of the institution from a college to a university and named it Dixie State University. DSU offers degrees in Health Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering and other science and technology related fields. The university also offers an Undergraduate Research program designed to assist students in making intellectual or creative contributions to their chosen discipline. DSU also operates a Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center which provides resources for students and community members looking to develop ideas into patents and businesses. The center is a collaboration between Dixie State’s College of Business & Communication and College of Science & Technology and supports a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship on the Dixie State campus.
Southern Utah University’s more than 140 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs across six academic colleges are fully accredited. Southern Utah University is committed to providing the most innovative and relevant university experience. SUU offers world-class project based learning giving students professional experience before they enter the job market. SUU offers a a small business development center providing cutting edge technology and professional networking to create the ability to provide affordable, comprehensive, and innovative programs that reflect a rapidly changing small business climate. Currently in development is the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Center for Entrepreneurship. The center will include The Christy Family Incubator Lab, office space, and a place for guidance and mentoring from successful business owners.

The university was established in 1850 as the University of Deseret by the General Assembly of the provisional State of Deseret, making it Utah’s oldest institution of higher education. It received its current name in 1892, four years before Utah attained statehood, and moved to its current location in 1900.

UVU believes that exceptionally capable and well-motivated students should have the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research within their field of study. With the internationalization of higher education, along with the globalization of economies and societies, undergraduate research has become more an integral part of student and faculty academic life. UVU provides consultation and assistance to support and facilitate student and faculty academic research activities and scholarship.
The Business Resource Center is UVU’s storefront for economic development. It is a one-stop shop for resources, expertise and assistance that accelerates business growth. USTAR’s Orem office is located in the UVU BRC.
The Weber State University Research Foundation partners with faculty, staff, entrepreneurs, and community businesses to provide financial, business, and technical assistance to the most promising new technologies and early stage companies. WSU also provides an Office of Undergraduate Research to strengthen and enhance the learning environment at Weber State University by engaging and mentoring students as researchers and scholars within and across the disciplines while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
WSU is also home to the Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center. The center has a wide-range of opportunities to motivate, inspire, and provide unique resources to help students achieve their dream of starting a business, or increase their creativity and develop an entrepreneurial mindset, which is highly sought after by today’s employers. Distinguishing factors of the unique program include world-class instructors, startup funding, and availability to any student enrolled at Weber State University, regardless of major. Entrepreneurship students can qualify for up to $15,000 in seed funding to help launch a new business. Each year, the center also offers several full scholarships and nearly $40,000 in prize money from our various business competitions.

At Westminster College students have many options to get involved in undergraduate research. Some disciplines allow students to received academic credit for undergraduate research. There are also a number of work study supported undergraduate research assistant positions available. Westminster College believes that research improves students’ critical, analytical and integrative thinking, helps them be more creative and reflective, and it builds leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
